Autopsy

This sculpture is meant to represent my own autopsy; as someone with numerous health issues, I have been curious about what discoveries would crop up in my body after death. When considering one’s own death, many people seem curious about their own funerals– who would attend, who would cry, eulogies, etc. – but I wonder about the meat that composes me. The organs, bones, and skin that were included were chosen by what body parts I have or have had issues with; for example, the intestines are shown as I have celiac disease, the embroidery on the skin shows eczema, and the spine shows noticeable lumbar lordosis.

This sculpture is made from fabric, metal hardware, found materials (ie. fake nails, fake eyelashes, zip ties), paper sculpture, beadwork, foam. It is six feet long, and 21 inches wide at the shoulders (widest part). This piece can also be worn, but for exhibition, it would be best shown laying on a plinth on the floor, more closely resembling how bodies are laid out for an autopsy.
